The River District Is Having a Moment

If you haven't made it to Sperryville's River District lately, this summer is the season to go. Tucked in a restored complex along the Thornton River at the foot of Old Rag Mountain, the District is stacking up free events through the warmer months — live music on summer evenings, rotating art workshops, and a solo gallery show that's worth the drive on its own. Season 6 of the Sperryville Summer Concert Series

The beloved Sperryville Summer Concert Series is back for its sixth season, and it opens with a show that sets a strong tone. Rebecca Porter — whose sound blends honky-tonk with Shenandoah roots music — is the kickoff performer at River District Arts. Gates and food trucks open at 5pm, with music running 6–8pm. Admission is free.

It's the kind of evening that Rappahannock County does best: folding chairs on the grass, the Blue Ridge turning gold in the distance, and music that actually fits the landscape. Arrive early enough to grab dinner from one of the food trucks before the show fills in.

Sam Grantham: 'The Spirit Moved Me' at The Confluence Gallery

Inside The Marketplace in the River District, The Confluence Gallery is currently showing The Spirit Moved Me, a solo exhibition by artist Sam Grantham. The show features Grantham's vibrant, expressive personality portraits and figurative works — canvases that feel alive with color and character. The exhibition runs through June 2026 and is free to view during gallery hours.

If you're making a day of it in Sperryville, this is an easy add-on: the gallery is right inside The Marketplace, so you can browse the show, grab something to eat from one of the in-house vendors, and settle in for the evening concert — all without moving your car.

The Collective Canvas: Free Monthly Art Workshops Starting June

Starting in June and running through November 2026, The Confluence Gallery is launching The Collective Canvas — a new free monthly series of interactive art workshops and live artist demonstrations. Sessions take place on the Second Saturday of each month, 2–4pm, and feature rotating local and regional artists sharing their techniques and process directly with visitors.

Each session is hands-on and community-oriented, giving visitors the chance to engage with working artists rather than just view finished work. The series runs June through November 2026, every Second Saturday — mark your calendar now if you're a regular visitor to the area.
