Free Live Music Returns to Sperryville This Summer

If you've been looking for a reason to make the drive out to the Blue Ridge foothills on a Thursday evening, the Sperryville Summer Concert Series just gave you five of them. The beloved free outdoor music series is returning for 2026, running every third Thursday from May through September on the lawn at Sperryville's River District, along River Lane near the confluence of the Thornton River.

With a lineup that spans Americana, country, roots, and rock, this is the kind of low-key, high-quality local event that DC-area visitors and Rappahannock regulars alike put on the calendar every spring. Best of all: admission is free.

The 2026 Lineup

The series features a rotating cast of regional performers. Confirmed artists for the 2026 season include:

Gold Top County Ramblers

Each evening features two sets with a short intermission, giving you time to grab a drink, explore the River District, or just soak in the mountain air. The series appears to kick off in early May 2026, with dates falling on the third Thursday of each month through September.

What to Expect at River District

The setting alone is worth the trip. Sperryville's River District sits along River Lane, a short stretch tucked near the Thornton River where you'll find studios, galleries, and local makers in a cluster of historic buildings — including a restored 1930s apple packing facility. On concert nights, the lawn becomes an informal gathering spot where neighbors spread blankets, dogs wander on leashes, and the music carries over the water.

Plan to arrive when gates open at 5:00 PM to stake out a good spot before the first set begins at 6:00 PM. Music wraps at 8:00 PM, leaving you time to linger in town for dinner or a glass of wine before heading home.

Make a Full Evening of It

Sperryville is small enough to explore on foot before the show. While you're in the neighborhood, the River District is home to art studios and galleries worth browsing in the late-afternoon hours. If you're making a full day of it, Rappahannock County's wineries and farms are a short drive in any direction — check current hours before heading out, as several venues in the area have recently updated their schedules.
